I watched "Inglourious Basterds" the other night.
(It was good, by the way, if wordy.)
And I came to one conclusion: Quentin Tarantino needs to make a Western.
Sure, large swaths of "Kill Bill 2" and "Basterds" have Western influences, some of which are remarkably adept at, if not matching, then at least imitating the feel of the best of the old Western movies.
And that's the point. If Quentin can do that for a few scenes, why not do it for a whole movie?
I wouldn't expect it to be a full-on authentic Western, of course. Personally, I don't believe anyone could do another that would be half as good as the classics. The culture has just moved on.
But even if it's mashed up with kung-fu and gangster influences, a Quentin Tarantino Western would be a lot of fun to watch.
Who's with me on this? It just needs to happen.
i completely agree! i'd love for him to give an old classic like the good, the bad & the ugly a tarantino'd remake.

I agree with the idea of a Tarnatino western. He certainly could re-make 'The sons of Kate Elder' (although I though the Singleton file 'Four Brothers' was a pretty good retell).
What I do not agree with is how you toss 'Unforgiven' out with the bath water. I am on the fence about '3:10 to Yuma' being a great show, but I thought the darkness of 'Unforgiven' was a wonderful modern western.

Ah, Mr. Adams. I assumed everyone would know I meant "post-Unforgiven."
It's one of my absolute favorite movies, at least in my Top 5. But I think it was the last of the true Westerns.
I thought '3:10 to Yuma' was a pretty good action movie, though.
